Folklife Collection - Local Legends: Patty Cannon

by Salisbury University Students (1970 – 1973)

1 folder (0.1 linear feet)

In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents during the years of 1970 to 1973, former Salisbury University students and professors collected folk legends. For this collection, these interviews focus on various story of Patty Cannon, a woman who would capture or kidnap African Americans and sell them as slaves. She would keep them in her house located at Johnson's Cross Roads. Other stories talk about how her house or grave was haunted. Most interviews include personal descriptions of the interviewer and informant, and the story.
